Her practice interests include hypertension, coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and women and heart disease. She has a strong interest in disease prevention and patient education, as well as healthcare quality improvement.
Dr. Young brings a fresh perspective to the practice of medicine, with a diverse background and skill set. Prior to practice, Dr. Young completed an MBA with a focus on strategic management in healthcare, and later worked as a healthcare consultant and then a project manager for a crown corporation helping entrepreneurs bring products to commercialization. Realizing that, for her, innovation was process driven, Dr. Young went on to complete an MSc in healthcare quality.
Dr. Young completed her internal medicine training at the University of British Columbia and is RCPSC certified in both internal medicine and cardiology, and she completed her cardiology fellowship at the University of Alberta, at the nationally recognized Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Her area of research interest is in the field of quality improvement, and has presented and published on various topics within cardiology. Dr. Young has won numerous awards, including the University of Alberta Postgraduate Medical Publication Prize, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Professional Student Research Award, the Government of Alberta Graduate Scholarship, and other awards throughout training.
At present, she is Local Department Head of cardiology at Surrey Memorial Hospital and is Director at Large of the Medical Staff Association at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
In her spare time, Dr. Young can be found spending time with her twin daughters, her partner and her dog Stevie.
